Martial Art Fighting Techniques & Strategies

Proven Martial Arts fighting techniques from Jim Butin

Many have asked me about the training methods I have used and strategies that helped me to be successful in competition fighting. I have included information that I believe will help others in their quest for success.

I realized early on that I wanted to be a winner in competition, but I understood that I was not as fast as some of the top guys (Bruce Lee, Bill Wallace), not as big and strong as some guys (Joe Lewis), or as good at combination attacks as some other guys (Chuck Norris, Fred Wren). I did realize that I could incorporate some of their strategies and be effective with adaptation. So I studied their styles and techniques whenever it was possible

If there was an area where I seemed to excel, it was with deception. I learned that defensive sparring had many benefits and using that style of fighting gave me the most success.

A lot of tournament fighters tried to pattern themselves around the great fighters that used offense, after all offense is the best defense. Start your attack, put your opponent on defense and do damage often. In every competition I entered the competitors sized each other up, they were all trying to decide who would be the best guy for them to fight first. Then when the call came to line up for black belt fighting, they would try to line up in a good position to get the guy they wanted for their first match. When I was a new black belt and before I became successful, guys were fighting each other to see who would get to fight me!
